Crypto Fear & Greed Index
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index, published daily by Alternative.me, condenses market sentiment into a number from 0 to 100. Low readings (extreme fear) suggest investors are worried, and high readings (extreme greed) suggest euphoria. It is built mainly from Bitcoin data, and Alternative.me lists volatility, market momentum and volume, social media activity, Bitcoin dominance and search trends among its inputs.
The idea comes from the contrarian saying "be fearful when others are greedy": extreme fear has sometimes coincided with good long-term buying opportunities and extreme greed with tops.
Treat it as a mood gauge, not a trading signal. Readings can stay at extremes for weeks, and the methodology is set by one publisher. The live reading on our tools page comes from Alternative.me's public API and changes once a day, so it says little about moves within a single session.
