Candlestick chart
A candlestick chart is the most common way of displaying price movements on crypto exchanges. Each "candle" represents a time period, such as one hour or one day, and shows four prices: the open, high, low and close (OHLC).
The thick part, called the body, spans the open and close prices. If the close is higher than the open, the candle is usually green (or hollow); if lower, it is red (or filled). Thin lines above and below the body, called wicks or shadows, show the highest and lowest prices reached during the period. A long lower wick, for example, means sellers pushed the price down but buyers pushed it back up.
Traders give names to recurring patterns, such as doji, hammer and engulfing candles, and look at candles together with volume and support and resistance levels. Candlestick patterns are interpretations rather than reliable predictions, and they are less meaningful on very short timeframes and illiquid coins.
