Rupee vs dollar: why Indian holders keep a different record book

Since the 2013 peak, Bitcoin set a new record close on 160 days in rupees but only 143 in dollars. In 4 of the last 6 comebacks, rupee holders got their new record first, up to 51 days earlier, because the rupee kept weakening.

From the December 2017 top to the October 2025 record, the rupee price rose 9.01×. The dollar price rose 6.50× and USD/INR moved from 64.04 to 88.78 (×1.386), so in log terms about 15% of the rise came from the weaker rupee alone. Even in 2025, 17 Jan 2025, 18 Jan 2025, 21 Jan 2025, 10 Aug 2025, 3 Oct 2025, 4 Oct 2025 were rupee records but not dollar records.

The 2013 peak predates our daily rupee series (from 20 Dec 2013), so it is rebuilt from Bitstamp's 4 Dec 2013 close of $1,132 × that day's ECB rate of 61.956 = ₹70,135. The first rupee record after it came on 3 Jan 2017.

FAQ

What is Bitcoin's all-time high in INR?

The highest daily close is ₹1,10,73,352 on 6 Oct 2025 (Bitstamp BTC/USD close × ECB USD/INR rate). CoinGecko's intraday high in rupees is ₹1,11,87,013. Both are correct: one is the end-of-day price, the other the highest price traded during the day.

When did Bitcoin first cross ₹1 crore?

On a daily-close basis, first on 11 Jul 2025 (₹1,00,91,806). Since 20 Dec 2013 it has closed at or above ₹1 crore on only 1.4% of days.

How far below its record is Bitcoin now?

At the 30 October 2026 snapshot, 1 BTC was ₹73,19,593, −33.9% from the record close. Getting back needs a +51.3% rise. The box at the top updates from the live price every minute.

How deep were past crashes in rupees?

-84.8% after the 2013 peak, -81.4% after 2017 and -74.3% after November 2021 (daily closes in INR). Since the October 2025 record, the lowest close was ₹55,40,087 (-50.0%). Past patterns do not guarantee future ones.

Why do the rupee and dollar records fall on different days?

The rupee price is the dollar price × the USD/INR rate. When the rupee weakens, Bitcoin can set a rupee record while still below its dollar record. That happened on 24 days, for example 3 Jan 2017 and 4 Jan 2017.

Is buying at an all-time high a mistake?

In this data, someone who bought at each cycle top waited between 120 and 1126 days for the next record. This is not investment advice. To see how spreading buys over time changes the picture, try our SIP calculator, and remember the 1% TDS and 30% tax (31.2% with cess) when you sell.

How we calculated this: Bitstamp BTC/USD daily close (UTC) × ECB USD/INR reference rate (last published rate on holidays), 20 Dec 2013 to 28 Oct 2026, refreshed daily. "Now" uses CoinGecko's live global average; Indian exchanges can differ slightly. Past prices do not predict future ones. Not financial advice.
