Ethereum ETF

An Ethereum ETF is an exchange-traded fund that tracks the price of ether (ETH) and trades on a stock exchange, letting investors gain exposure through an ordinary brokerage account without buying or storing ETH themselves.

In the US, futures-based ether ETFs launched in October 2023. Spot ether ETFs, which hold actual ETH, began trading on 23 July 2024, about six months after spot bitcoin ETFs, with issuers including BlackRock, Fidelity, Grayscale and others. Initially they could not stake their ETH; from 2025, some US issuers began adding staking after regulators allowed it.

ETFs are convenient and regulated, but you pay an annual management fee, can only trade during market hours and do not control the underlying coins. Their price can differ slightly from ETH's market price. Fund flows into and out of these ETFs are now closely watched as a measure of institutional demand.
