Transaction fee (sat/vB)
A transaction fee is the amount you pay the network to process a transfer. On Bitcoin, fees go to the miner who includes your transaction in a block, and they depend on the size of your transaction in data, not on how much bitcoin you send. Sending ₹500 or ₹50 lakh can cost exactly the same.
Bitcoin fees are quoted in satoshis per virtual byte (sat/vB). Blocks have limited space, so when many people want to transact, users bid higher rates and fees rise; when demand is low, a rate of a few sat/vB may be enough. Transactions with many inputs, for example from lots of small deposits, are larger and cost more. Sites such as mempool.space show current rates.
On Ethereum and similar chains the equivalent is the gas fee. Exchanges usually charge a flat withdrawal fee instead, which may be higher or lower than the actual network fee. Choosing a cheaper network for a withdrawal, where the receiving platform supports it, can save money.
