Bitcoin was trading near $82,000 on October 22, 2026, roughly 35% below its all-time high of about $126,000 from early October 2025. Prediction markets have noticed. According to Sikt Intelligence’s live odds page, Polymarket’s “What price will Bitcoin hit in 2026?” market priced a 3.2% chance of a touch of $130,000 before the year ends.

Most coverage stops at “traders are bearish”. We wanted to know something more useful: how big a move each of those odds actually implies, what it looks like in rupees, and how Indian tax rules change the picture.

The odds, turned into moves

There are about 70 days left in 2026. The table below takes the Polymarket “touch” odds (whether a level is hit at any point before 2027) and works out the move needed from $82,000. Rupee prices use the October 22 close of 94.82 per dollar.

LevelPolymarket odds (touch by end-2026)Move from $82,000Price in ₹ per BTC
$130,0003.2%+58.5%₹1.23 crore
$120,0005.5%+46.3%₹1.14 crore
$110,0009%+34.1%₹1.04 crore
$100,000~23%+22.0%₹94.8 lakh
$95,00040%+15.9%₹90.1 lakh
$70,000~30%-14.6%₹66.4 lakh
$60,00012%-26.8%₹56.9 lakh

Odds for $95,000 and below-the-line levels are from Sikt’s snapshot; the $100,000 figure is from btc-pulse’s October 22 roundup, which also showed $90,000 at 62%. Odds move daily.

The striking line is the pair in the middle. Traders see a 14.6% fall to $70,000 as more likely (about 30%) than a 22% rise to $100,000 (about 23%). The market is not calling a crash, but it is pricing more room below than above.

Kalshi asks a different question, where bitcoin closes the year. Its most likely range was $80,000 to $84,999.99, at about 14%, according to the same Sikt page. In plain terms: the single most likely outcome is that not much happens.

The banks still disagree

Wall Street is more upbeat. btc-pulse lists Standard Chartered at $100,000 for end-2026 and Bernstein at about $125,000, both after cutting from $150,000 earlier in the year. The same piece notes bitcoin closed 2025 at $87,497.94 on Coinbase, far below the $200,000 calls made for that year. Bank targets and betting odds are both guesses; only one of them has money on the line every minute.

What it means for Indian investors

Indian tax rules make the odds look worse than they do in dollars, because the upside is taxed and the downside is not deductible. Under the Income-tax Act, 2025 (in force from April 1, 2026), gains on crypto are taxed at a flat 30% plus 4% cess, 1% TDS is deducted on sales, and losses cannot be set off against other income or other gains.

BtcMedia worked example: ₹1,00,000 put into bitcoin at about ₹77.8 lakh per BTC.

ScenarioValue at that priceGain or lossTax at 31.2%Net result
Touches and sells at $100,000₹1,21,951+₹21,951₹6,849+₹15,102
Falls and sells at $70,000₹85,366-₹14,634Nil, and no set-off-₹14,634

So a 22% rise leaves you about 15% better off after tax, while a 14.6% fall costs the full 14.6%. The 1% TDS (₹1,220 on the $100,000 sale) is a credit against your final tax, not an extra cost, but it does tie up cash until you file. Rupee moves matter too: these numbers hold the exchange rate at 94.82.

BtcMedia verdict

Prediction markets are saying a new record in 2026 is a long shot and a quiet finish near today’s price is the base case. For Indian holders, the tax asymmetry means a lump-sum bet on a quick year-end rally carries worse odds than the headline numbers suggest. Anyone already holding for the long term has less reason to react to these odds at all. More on the dollar price on our bitcoin page.

FAQ

What does a 3% Polymarket price mean? A contract paying $1 if bitcoin touches $130,000 trades at about 3 cents, so traders collectively put the chance near 3%. It is a crowd estimate, not a forecast from any one expert.

Are crypto losses deductible in India? No. Losses on crypto cannot be set off against salary, other income or gains on other assets, and cannot be carried forward.

Why do Polymarket and Kalshi show different numbers? Polymarket’s market asks whether a level is touched at any time before 2027; Kalshi’s asks where the price sits at midnight on January 1, 2027.
