FAQ
What is the INR premium on Bitcoin?
It is how much more (or less) Bitcoin costs on an Indian rupee exchange than the global price converted at the market USD/INR rate. A +5% premium means you pay ₹1,05,000 for Bitcoin worth ₹1,00,000 at the global price.
Why is Bitcoin more expensive on Indian exchanges?
Several factors can contribute: the 1% TDS on every sale reduces arbitrage between Indian and global markets, rupee on-ramps are limited, and USDT itself usually trades above the USD/INR rate on Indian platforms. The premium on USDT is shown separately so you can see how much of the Bitcoin premium comes from the dollar leg.
How is the premium calculated here?
Premium = Indian exchange last traded BTC/INR price ÷ (global BTC/USD price × USD/INR rate) − 1. Global BTC/USD and the USD/INR rate are from CoinGecko; exchange prices are from the public ticker APIs of WazirX, CoinDCX and ZebPay. Data refreshes about every 5 minutes.
Does a premium matter if I hold for years?
Yes, twice. You pay it when you buy, and if the premium shrinks by the time you sell, you receive less than the global price move suggests. Compare the premium when you buy and when you sell.
Data, not advice. Prices are indicative; your actual price also includes exchange fees, GST and spread. Not a recommendation of any exchange.
