Crypto exchange fee calculator (India)

By BtcMedia Research · Updated

Exchange fees look tiny, 0.5% or 0.4%, but 18% GST is added on top and you pay them twice, once to buy and once to sell. Enter an amount: this calculator prices one full round trip (buy, sell, withdraw to your bank) on every major Indian exchange in rupees, cheapest first, and shows how far the price has to rise before you break even.

From real prices: On 181 of the 365 days from 30 Oct 2025 to 30 Oct 2026 (50%), bitcoin's rupee price moved less than 1.18%, the starter-tier round-trip fee on CoinDCX (buy plus sell, GST included). On those days a one-day trader who called the direction right still lost money. See every exchange

Your trade

Fees from each exchange's official page, checked 1 Nov 2026. Regular user, INR spot market, no token discounts.

An order on the exchange’s spot market (not Quick Buy or instant buy).

For example 5 or −3. 0 means you sell at the same price.

Sets your 30-day volume, which decides the fee tier.

CoinSwitch or any other: copy the fee from its fee page.

Cheapest for you: Giottus at ₹94.40 a month (₹1,133 a year). Dearest: WazirX ZERO (₹99/month) at ₹127 (₹1,522 a year). On WazirX ZERO (₹99/month) the price must rise 1.27% just to get your money back. WazirX’s ZERO plan only pays once you trade over ₹24,750 a month; you trade ₹20,000.

After the sale: After selling on Giottus, ₹9,853 reaches your bank; ₹99.53 is held as 1% TDS and counts towards your tax.

Assumptions: the fee applies to both the buy and the sale amount; 18% GST is added where the exchange says so (Bitbns doesn’t say); WazirX ZERO’s "₹99 plus applicable taxes" is taken as 18% GST. The break-even rise covers fees, GST and withdrawal, not the 30% tax. Quick Buy or instant-buy screens can cost more (ZebPay Quick Trade: from 0.5%).

The fee wall: days bitcoin moved less than the fee

Every daily rupee move in bitcoin (up or down) from 30 Oct 2025 to 30 Oct 2026, against each exchange's starter-tier round-trip fee. On a day the price moved less than the fee, buying and selling a day later lost money even when you guessed right.

ZebPay1.06%16846%

WazirX0.94%15542.5%
Giottus0.94%15542.5%
Bitbns0.5%10027.4%

Even at the lowest fee (Bitbns, 0.5%) the price moved less than the fee on 100 days. You hit this wall on every trade; a monthly SIP that you sell once hits it far less often than daily trading.

Prices: Bitstamp daily close (UTC) × ECB USD/INR. Exchange prices and spreads differ slightly; bank withdrawal fees are left out of this table.

FAQ

What are CoinDCX fees?

Per CoinDCX’s fee page (1 Nov 2026), INR spot trades cost 0.50% below ₹2 lakh of 30-day volume, 0.42% from ₹2-5 lakh, 0.17% from ₹5-75 lakh, falling to 0.03% at the top VIP tier, plus 18% GST. INR deposits and withdrawals are free.

How much does it cost to buy and sell ₹10,000 of bitcoin?

One round trip (buy plus sell) at the starter tier, GST included: about ₹118 on CoinDCX, ₹104 on WazirX (with its ₹10 withdrawal) and ₹94.40 on Giottus.

Is GST charged on crypto exchange fees?

Yes. Indian exchanges add 18% GST to the trading fee; CoinDCX, Mudrex, Giottus and ZebPay say so on their fee pages. A 0.50% fee is really 0.59%.

When is the WazirX ZERO plan worth it?

ZERO costs ₹99 a month plus taxes (₹117 with 18% GST) and charges no trading fee. Against pay-per-trade at 0.40% + GST it only wins once you buy and sell more than ₹24,750 a month.

Is the 1% TDS a fee?

No. The 1% TDS on a sale is paid to the government in your name and counts against your tax when you file; if your tax is lower, it comes back as a refund. It ties up cash but it is not a cost.

Can I deduct exchange fees from my crypto tax?

No. The 30% VDA tax allows no deduction except the cost of acquisition, so trading fees and GST don’t reduce the taxable gain.

Not advice. This compares fees; it is not a recommendation of any exchange. A low fee matters less than an exchange being FIU-IND registered and letting you withdraw. Check FIU-IND registration
