Bitcoin ETFs' $526.7M Day: Why One BlackRock Fund Did All the Buying

US spot Bitcoin ETFs logged their best day since September 22, but IBIT's $665.2 million inflow masked outflows at Fidelity and Grayscale. Here's what the flow data actually says.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $526.7 million in net inflows on Monday, October 19, their biggest single day since the $714.7 million of September 22, according to Decrypt’s ETF tracker. But the headline hides the more interesting number: BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) alone took in $665.2 million, more than the entire category’s net total.

In other words, this wasn’t a broad wave of institutional buying. It was one fund absorbing money while two of its biggest rivals bled.

The fund-by-fund breakdown

Using Farside Investors data cited by ChainReport, the session looked like this:

  • BlackRock IBIT: +$665.2 million
  • Fidelity FBTC: −$83.6 million
  • Grayscale GBTC: −$54.9 million
  • Every other spot Bitcoin ETF: zero net flows

IBIT’s inflow was large enough to cover $138.5 million of withdrawals elsewhere and still leave the category firmly positive. Only one product recorded net creations that day, which is why ChainReport describes it as “an IBIT-driven reversal rather than a synchronized increase across issuers.”

IBIT also dominated trading. SoSoValue data put total spot Bitcoin ETF volume at about $2.09 billion for the session, with IBIT accounting for roughly $1.76 billion of it.

A sharp turn after two weeks of selling

The context makes Monday stand out. In the two weeks before it, the funds shed about $910 million, including a $484.9 million exit on October 7, their worst day since June, per Decrypt. The previous Friday closed with another $82.4 million of net selling.

Going into October 19, the category was sitting on roughly $614.7 million of month-to-date outflows. Monday’s inflow cut that deficit to about $88 million in a single session.

The timing is notable too. Crypto Briefing reported the buying came while Bitcoin had softened about 2% over the prior week and traded near or below $81,500, and it was IBIT’s largest single-day inflow since October 7, 2025. Buyers stepped in on weakness rather than chasing a breakout. Bitcoin has since pushed back above $84,000.

Ether and Solana went the other way

Not all crypto funds shared the optimism. Spot Ethereum ETFs lost about $103 million on the same day, their fourth straight day of outflows, and Solana ETFs lost $6.7 million, according to Decrypt. Ironically, BlackRock topped both lists: its Ethereum fund ETHA accounted for $95.4 million of the ether outflow on the same day IBIT took in $665.2 million.

That split suggests allocators are concentrating in Bitcoin, and specifically in the largest, most liquid wrapper, rather than adding broad crypto exposure.

The bigger picture in numbers

  • Total spot Bitcoin ETF net assets: about $105.46 billion, roughly 6.4% of Bitcoin’s market cap
  • Cumulative net inflows since the January 2024 launch: about $57.4 billion

Those figures come from SoSoValue data cited by ChainReport and Crypto Briefing. Keep in mind that assets under management move with Bitcoin’s price, while daily flows measure actual money going in or out.

Why concentration matters

One-fund days cut both ways. On the positive side, IBIT’s pull shows that large allocators still see the dip as a buying opportunity, and liquidity in the biggest product keeps deepening. On the cautious side, a $526.7 million headline driven by a single issuer is easier to reverse than inflows spread across ten funds. ChainReport’s own read is that October 19 was “a large one-day reversal, not yet evidence of a new inflow cycle.”

The signal to watch is breadth. If FBTC and the smaller funds flip to inflows in the coming sessions, that would point to a genuine return of demand. If IBIT keeps carrying the category alone, Monday may prove to be one big ticket rather than a trend.

What it means for Indian investors

US spot Bitcoin ETFs aren’t listed in India, so flows like these matter mostly as a sentiment and liquidity signal for the Bitcoin price you pay on Indian exchanges. Large ETF creations mean the funds’ authorised participants buy actual Bitcoin, which supports global spot demand. If you track Bitcoin from India, watching daily ETF flows alongside the Bitcoin price page gives a better read on institutional appetite than price alone.
