By BtcMedia Research · Updated

Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 Nov 2026. NSE’s Muhurat trading opens at 2:20 PM IST that day; bitcoin trades round the clock as always. 7 days to Diwali

Buying gold on Dhanteras and shares in Muhurat trading are Diwali habits. What if a little bitcoin had gone into the shopping list too? This page keeps bitcoin’s real rupee price on every Diwali since 2014, and compares it with a gold ETF and a Nifty 50 ETF bought the same day, after tax.

From real prices: ₹1,000 of bitcoin on every Diwali from 2014 to 2025 (12 Diwalis, ₹12,000 in all) is worth ₹9,12,583 at the 30 Oct 2026 close, ₹6,31,601 after 31.2% tax. The same rupees are worth ₹38,485 in a gold ETF and ₹24,319 in a Nifty 50 ETF. But anyone who bought last Diwali (21 Oct 2025) at ₹95.33 lakh is −23.1% today.

FAQ

What was the bitcoin price on Diwali last year?

On 21 Oct 2025 (Diwali 2025) bitcoin was about ₹95.33 lakh (Bitstamp close × ECB USD/INR). On 30 Oct 2026 it was ₹73.29 lakh, a change of −23.1%.

What was bitcoin worth on Diwali 2014?

About ₹21,854 per bitcoin on 23 Oct 2014. ₹1,000 bought that day is worth ₹3,35,359 today.

Which Diwali was the worst time to buy?

The biggest Diwali-to-Diwali fall came after Diwali 2021 (4 Nov 2021): −65%. Even so, ₹1,000 bought that day grew to ₹1,602 by 30 Oct 2026. The 2025 purchase is the weakest right now: ₹769.

Is buying bitcoin on Diwali lucky or smart?

The numbers show no magic in the date. Buying on one fixed day a year is a discipline that averages out highs and lows. Bitcoin can still halve in a year, as it did after 2021. Put in only what you can afford to see fall.

How is bitcoin bought on Diwali taxed?

When you sell, the gain is taxed at 30% plus 4% cess (31.2%), only the purchase cost is deducted, and a loss can’t be set off against other income. Selling on an Indian exchange deducts 1% TDS, which you claim back in your return. Gold ETFs and Nifty ETFs held over 12 months pay 12.5% (Nifty with ₹1.25 lakh exempt) plus cess.
