₹100 Buys About 1,363 Satoshis of Bitcoin Today. Moving Them Off the Exchange Can Cost a Tenth of That

Bitcoin’s whitepaper was published on 31 October 2008, eighteen years ago today. One question Indian readers keep searching is the most practical one: can I buy bitcoin with ₹100, and how much do I actually get?

Yes, you can, and you get satoshis. One bitcoin is divided into 100,000,000 satoshis (sats), so nobody needs a whole coin. CoinDCX’s help page, for example, sets the minimum order on INR pairs at ₹100.

What your rupees buy today

At ₹73,39,194 per bitcoin on CoinGecko at 12:42 PM IST on 31 October 2026, one satoshi is worth about 7.3 paise, and one rupee buys about 13.6 sats.

You spendSatoshis (approx.)Share of 1 BTC
₹1001,3630.0000136
₹5006,8130.0000681
₹1,00013,6250.000136
₹5,00068,1270.000681
₹10,0001,36,2550.00136

These figures are before exchange trading fees and the spread, so the sats credited to you will be slightly fewer. Our satoshi to INR converter updates the same maths with the live price, and the bitcoin INR price page shows today’s rate.

The catch nobody mentions: moving tiny amounts

Buying ₹100 of bitcoin is cheap. Moving it to your own wallet is not, in relative terms.

Bitcoin transfers pay a network fee per unit of transaction size (sats per virtual byte). mempool.space showed 1 sat/vB for low priority and 2 sat/vB for the fastest confirmation on the afternoon of 31 October. A common single-input, two-output SegWit transfer is about 141 vbytes, so:

Fee rateFee in satsFee in ₹Share of a ₹100 buyShare of a ₹10,000 buy
1 sat/vB141₹10.3510.3%0.10%
2 sat/vB282₹20.7020.7%0.21%

And today is a quiet day. When the network is busy, fee rates can be many times higher. Exchanges also set their own withdrawal fees, which can be higher than the network fee, so check the fee screen before you withdraw. Our bitcoin transaction fee calculator shows the live cost in rupees.

BtcMedia verdict: ₹100 is a fine way to learn how buying works. If you plan to self-custody, it is cheaper to let small buys build up and withdraw once, rather than moving every ₹100 purchase.

What it means for Indian investors

  • Tax is the same as for whole coins. Gains on sats are taxed at 30% plus 4% cess (31.2%), with no deduction except the cost of buying and no offsetting of losses against other income or other crypto gains.
  • 1% TDS applies on sales. An Indian exchange deducts it from the sale value where it applies, and you can claim it against your tax. Our crypto tax calculator does the sums.
  • Worked example: buy ₹1,000 of sats and later sell them for ₹1,500. The ₹500 gain owes ₹156 in tax. If TDS is deducted, ₹15 of that is already paid.
  • Small regular amounts: if you plan to add ₹100 or ₹500 every week or month, our Bitcoin SIP calculator shows how past SIPs would have worked in rupees.
  • Use an exchange registered with FIU-IND; our exchange checker helps.

FAQ

Can I buy bitcoin for ₹100 in India? Yes. Several Indian exchanges accept small orders; CoinDCX lists ₹100 as its minimum on INR pairs. At today’s price, ₹100 gets you about 1,363 satoshis before fees.

How much is 1 satoshi in rupees? About 7.3 paise at ₹73.39 lakh per bitcoin on 31 October 2026. It moves with the bitcoin price.

Is it worth withdrawing ₹100 of bitcoin to my own wallet? Usually not on its own. Even on a quiet day the network fee is around ₹10, about 10% of the amount. Withdrawing larger, combined amounts keeps the fee share small.

How we calculated this: bitcoin at ₹73,39,194 (CoinGecko, 12:42 PM IST, 31 Oct 2026); 1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats; fee rates from mempool.space at the same time; 141 vbytes for a typical single-input SegWit transfer. Not financial advice; crypto prices are volatile.
